I think being a CFR is very rewarding role and i enjoy helping my community, however I personally feel that as a Community First Responder, being trained to use an AED, O2 and basic first aid is enough. I really do think that in certain places of the country it is getting out of hand what CFR'S can attend. I have recently got on to the service and my career goal is to be a paramedic. I would not feel comfortable doing a technicains job as a community first responder. I can at the same time understand that it would benefit really rural areas were it could take such a long time for an ambulance to get to the patient. Sorry just my opinion.

Hi all , I'm starting my responder training on the 19th I was wondering what clothes are best to wear are jeans going to be ok for training ? Also my ambulance service does not provide a uniform just a tabard , Do many of you buy your own trousers etc just to use when on call ? I was thinking of maybe getting an all in one jumpsuit similar to ambulance staff , The main reason being if someone vomits on you etc or do you think this is not necessary , any advice would be great thanks .

Jeans will be fine for training www.spservices.co.uk sell uniform however I would be very careful about buying green suits, if responders in the scheme don't wear them now I would steer away from that as f/t crews may not be very accepting to turning up to a job your at in your green suit. If you decide to get a uniform don't get an all in one either, their terrible!! Remember if you are community based either the reason you have the tabbard is it will take you two seconds to put on before going mobile to a job, can you imagine changing into full kit?? Clothes off, Suit on Boots on Belt on Gloves on..... The time you go mobile the crew will be there.

uniform training to a set level is good but maybe we should have a national scheme with 2 systems FR's and enhanced FR's with upgraded skills and training so that some people can do the basics and others can if they wish and are able do a little bit more. or would that be co-responders?
